POETRY IS LIFE - SERIES EDITOR NANCY DUCI DENOFIO
PUBLISHED BY DON ODOM JR. LIMITED EDITIONS PRESS
Welcome to Poetry is Life - where your world blends with mine - where memory is told in poetic form - catches the listener - touches the reader with his or her own life. I am proud to announce the First Series is complete.
Last year we began Poetry Is Life after the publication of "What Brought You Here?" a collection of my work in poetic memoir, published by limited editions press (found on facebook or the web, including amazon.com) , following great reviews, press, network tv, cable stations, and readings - Poetry Is Life - began accepting submissions.
As a writer of detail, and one who has collected memories - recalled my crib, sharing a room, detesting the dark, falling in love, shooting snowballs at other children behind my homemade fort - I knew I had this filing cabinet in my mind storing a universal memoir where others would also recall a Dale Evan's hat; so goes the structure, character and make up of life. I remember being left alone in our old car while parents shopped, it wasn't something bad - or against the law. Children were never allowed past the first floor of the hospital so my legs, not touching the floor would swing back and forth as I waited for my own Mother to be back in her room, following surgery. The story of the young girl who recalls a relative - they suddenly are dancing, rolling in high weeds, running through a barn, laughing so hard they had to bend forward, but she snapped her stem near an old pond where they last played, and took her home; a short discription of Poetic Memoir.
SERIES TWO of POETRY IS LIFE HAS STARTED - SUBMISSIONS ARE CALLED FOR UP UNTIL MARCH 30TH, 2012.
SUBMISSION - go to facebook, Poetry Is Life, where automatic submissions are now open.
REQUIREMENTS - The first and foremost is a theme - it must fit the series. If your work does not fit the series it may fit into a different series, so wait or try again. Theme is exactly what you did, heard, saw, felt, tasted, held, and so on. It could even be the man across the street - a teacher - a lost love. Your work when you read it aloud can be felt even by you, your emotions will talk to you. One line in "What Brought You Here?" continued to focus on the hands of a young woman - as she grew older the sand of time fell through aging fingers, thin fingers, and sea gulls turned to crows. So make your work arouse the emotions of the reader, happy or sad - hysterical or sentimental - we have all felt different perhaps while doing the same thing. The happy bride verses one who steps off the alter, never to marry. Get the picture. What is life for you can be enjoyed and bring a memory of life to another.
All manuscripts will consist of 35 pages with only one poetic memoir per page, unless it rolls over to the second page. Never place more than one on a page.
Type setting 12 pt. New Times Roman. Title 14 pt. New Times Roman. Please place your work into a continuous file, in the order you would like them to be read. Single spaced and ready for the editor's review. All work remains your own. The cover and pictures not provided by you are owned by the publisher. There is no cost or fees involved. The book, including photos, art, etc., will be worked out with those chosen to be included in the series once the book reaches publication. All books will have the same cover design, although photos, etc., will be worked one on one with the publisher.
The book measures 8.5 inches tall and 5.5 inches wide. It will continue about 80 pages, and beyond quality. As the author, those who have worked with you, one on one, including myself, expect you to open up doors for your writing, become your own best advocate. I certainly was surprised what happened when my first Poetic Memoir hit the market.
The second series begins with my second Poetic Memoir which will give you even more insight on what it is I am searching for. This will be announced by the Publisher during the month of January 2012.
All submissions will be answered within two weeks, and if you are accepted, congratulations, but congratulations for submitting, reviewing what is needed, thinking about the theme, and most of all - try again.
What you need to submit - 35 finished pages in the type set mentioned above. A short bio. of yourself, and a preface. If you have any questions about the preface, my first book on Amazon gave you a glimpse at mine. Any questions please ask at Poetry Is Life, on facebook, or send me a short note via email with Poetry Is Life in the subject line to NancyDenofio@gmail.com.
Good luck.
Best regards, Nancy Duci Denofio
